SMS Glossary

HLR - Stands for Home Location Register. The location register databases to which subscriber identity is assigned for record and billing purposes.
IP - Stands for Internet Protocol. A set of rules which governs the Internet. Also stands for a number that indentifies a computer on the internet.
MMS - Stands for Multimedia Message Service. More advanced than SMS, you can send text, sound and images.
Ringtone - A ringtone is the sound from a mobile when it is taking an incoming call. It can be just a tune or a actual song.
SMS - Stands for Short Message Service. People can send messages to a device instantly.
SMSC - Stands for Short Message Service Center. This center is where every text message which is sent goes through.
Tariff - Tariff is a calling plan offered to the mobile user for a certain amount a month or each call / text on pay as you go.
WAP - Stands for Wireless Application protocol. The standard for connecting mobile devices to the Internet.
